We are part of the world creation, and we ourselves create nothing. Our knowledge allows us to make use of all the forces already in existence, our art - to interpret emotions already felt. One big war, an epidemic, and we collapse into ignorance and darkness … It’s with these words of Archil Gorky, the Armenian-American painter and pioneer of Abstract Expressionism, that I would like to introduce Atom Egoyan. Atom Egoyan is a critically acclaimed filmmaker, stage director, writer and producer. Officer of the Order of Canada, Egoyan directed twelve feature films such as Exotica (1994), The Sweet Hereafter (1997), which earned him an Academy Award nomination for Best Director. Canadian Opera Company. Atom Egoyan has won the Cannes Film Festival four times and is widely considered the most famous Armenian filmmaker since Sergei Parajanov. The Egyptian-born, Canadian-raised, Oscar-nominated master of cinema d’art et d’essai has also won four awards from the prestigious Toronto International Film Festival. His most recent film, Guest of Honour, in 2019 was nominated for the Golden Lion at the Venice Film Festival.
